Meet The AHSL Board Members

Kathy’s lifelong passion has been to nurture and teach children. As a high school student, she happily volunteered in elementary schools and tutored her peers in math. She earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education and enjoyed teaching many different grades (as well as high school math) in a local Christian school.

Kathy’s family moved to the area in 2004, where Karl pastored a small church for twelve years. While they have lived here, AHSL has been a tremendous blessing in their lives as a parent support and as a wonderful friend group for their kids and grandchildren. Kathy has enjoyed teaching a variety of classes in TEC (formerly co-op), leading a sewing club for a few years and serving as a Board member. She currently homeschools four of her grandchildren and enjoys encouraging parents in their homeschool journey.

Kathy and Karl have four grown children and 12 grandchildren! Since their children are spread everywhere from Elizabeth City to Utah to Alaska to Germany, they have many reasons to travel frequently for fun vacations! Kathy continues to serve as the Board chair and looks forward to getting to know more members of our AHSL community.

After teaching in the classroom for several years, Jenny chose homeschooling as the best option for her family. She loves the flexibility; and since all children learn differently, the ability to teach at one's own pace is beneficial.

She is involved with AHSL behind-the-scenes helping to ensure that things run smoothly with TEC and other events such as History Fair, Science Olympics, and Field Day.

Having worked with children who struggle with learning to read, she enjoys encouraging others in their homeschooling journey and helping them find the best ways to teach their children.

I have homeschooled for over 11 years, and it's been an incredible experience that I wouldn't change. I love Jesus, and I love teaching my children a Christian worldview.

AHSL is very team-oriented, and everyone is needed and appreciated. I'm privileged to serve on the board and play a role in making sure our program continues to be exceptional and maintains its firm foundation on God's Word so that we can keep meeting together, learning, and encouraging one another in Christ.

 After teaching in a private school for 16 years, she decided to homeschool her three children and has been homeschooling for 10 years. Her oldest child is currently enrolled in a college nursing program, her middle child is homeschooling and is in high school, and her youngest child is enrolled at a local charter elementary school. The Albemarle Homeschool Support League has been a tremendous support for all three of her children's unique homeschooling journeys. As a parent, she has enjoyed teaching during the Tuesday Enrichment Classes and is now honored to serve on the board as co-secretary. She aims to encourage other homeschooling families on their journeys and continue to provide an engaging, fun learning experience through AHSL. 

 She has recently joined the AHSL board to help fill the secretary role. Stephanie is a mother of two and has a Senior graduating in Spring 2025. She started homeschooling in 2020 with no experience and immediately fell in love with the flexibility and a more customized learning experience. Watching your child learn or grasp a concept that you taught them is such a big motivator to continue on. Looking forward to coming together and sharing ideas on how we can make the most of our homeschool adventures.
